Watch: MS Dhoni Scoring 15 runs in the Last Over to Win the Final: They say that MS Dhoni is perhaps one of the best finishers in limited overs’ Cricket. And there are numerous instances that back the fact. This video is nothing but a token for the same.
It was the final of the Tri Nation series between India and Sri Lanka at Port of Spain on 11th July, 2013. Opting to field first, Indian bowlers bowled relatively well and bundled the Sri Lankan innings at the score of 201 runs with Ravindra Jadeja taking 4 wickets by giving away just 23 runs.
In reply, the Sri Lankan bowlers kept the pressure over the Indian batsmen and did not allow them to score freely. Dhoni came in to bat after Rohit Sharma was dismissed at the score of 58 runs. India were poised at the score of 139 for the loss of 4 wickets in 31.1 overs. Wickets kept falling from the other end and the lower middle order and the tail enders did not manage to put up a resilient effort, courtesy of brilliant bowling from Herath and Malinga.
Things went down to the wire and India had limited chances to seal victory as they were poised at 187/9 after 49 overs. With 15 runs required of the last over and with a single wicket in hand, it was indeed a tough ask. But Indian fans had their hopes alive as their skipper, MS Dhoni was on the strike for the last over.
To add to the twist, Dhoni missed the first delivery of the last over bowled by Eranga. 15 off 5 was required. In the very second delivery, Dhoni smacked a six over the long off region to reduce the equation to 9 required off 4. This was followed by a boundary in the off region. With 5 runs required off 3 deliveries, Dhoni finished things off in style with a hammering six in the fourth ball and India won the final.
