Day-night test matches are to be played between Australia and New Zealand in Adelaide in November 2015. Also Pink cricket balls are to be introduced in this match making this match a significant event.
Emergence of T20 matches have led to the downfall of Test cricket as meager number of fans turn up for the matches. Concept of day-night test matches would change this scenario to a considerable extent. But Day-night test matches have some concerns regarding the visibility of the cricket ball and Pink colour balls might be the answer to those questions.
Pink balls have been tested for some months and there seems to be no problems with it and the trials have given positive results. This colourful change might be the next big thing that could help test cricket regains its importance.
Indian captain MS Dhoni was involved in a trial session with the pink ball after the match between India and Australia at MCG earlier this year. The video clipping was recorded by channel 9 as a ‘visibility test’ after the match. Surprisingly he had the ball in his hand bowling some medium pace deliveries rather than smacking it out of the park.
