Watch: Presenting to you, the 'Duck under the ball' shot by JP Duminy
South Africa’s classy left-handed batsman, JP Duminy, despite being an ever-present part of Proteas’ squad in all three formats – T20Is, ODIs and Tests – for a long time has somewhat failed to regularly come up with a big knock . However, the first Test at their ongoing series against Australia in Perth was an exception.
The classy left-hander hit an impressive knock of 141 and was the visitor’s top scorer as they came out victorious in the opening match. En route to his 141, Duminy accidently hit a shot that made commentators burst into laughter and opposition amused.
Hazlewood’s surprise bouncer caught Duminy unprepared to play any shot and forced the left-hander to duck under it hoping to escape the ball. He successfully evaded the rising delivery but kept his bat up which deflected the ball towards fine leg. This wasn’t any intentional shot but Duminy was more than happy to complete a quick run. The spectators and commentators, however, were completely amused.
South Africa, later on, went on to easily win the match by 177 runs. His knock in the second innings helped South Africa set a huge total which Australia was never able to chase down. South Africa continued to dominate the hosts and pocketed the second Test at Hobart as well to win the three-match series. The Proteas are currently playing in the third and final Test of the series.
Duminy, unfortunately, has failed to repeat that performance in the series again. In the first innings of the ongoing Test, Duminy walked in to bat in a sticky position but could not bail out his team like he did at Perth, scoring just five runs.
