Shaheen Afridi's hilarious blunders in the field sums up Pakistan's performance against Australia at Adelaide
Australia finished Day 1 at a commanding 1-302 in 73 overs.
Pakistan’s tour of Australia continues to get worse by the minute! After taking a shellacking of the highest order in the Twenty20 International series, the Green Shirts continued their abysmal run in Test cricket on Australian soil when they succumbed to their 13th consecutive loss.
And, the misery compounded to the hilt on the opening day of the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval when the duo of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne- Yep! Those two again- grounded their bowling attack of- Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Musa Khan, and Yasir Shah- into the dust.
None of the bowlers barring Shaheen Shah Afridi could create any impact as the duo racked up centuries to help the Aussies finish Day 1 at a commanding 1-302 in 73 overs. Pakistan is a mercurial team. But, there’s one thing they are consistent at -is their fielding. It has its own levels of bad, worse, appalling, abysmal. Whenever Pakistan commits an error in the field, it tends to go viral on social media.
Shaheen Afridi does it, Not once, not twice, but thrice!
And, it has again gone viral today! Thanks to Shaheen Shah Afridi and his troika of blunders on the field on the first day at the Adelaide Oval. Firstly, it was his wayward throw that led to four overthrows and proceeded to add extra runs to Australia’s kitty when it really should have been one.
That was still a mild error, something Wasim Akram came very hard on during the commentary. Akram said, “Shaheen Shah was in la-la land at fine leg. Yasir Shah and Shan Masood were probably yawning. That’s the problem with Pakistan cricket. They should be on the ball. Nobody was backing up and you as a fielder, it doesn’t matter how inexperienced you are, you set yourself, new batsman in, they just came out, I’ll probably start five-ten yards inside the boundary line not on the boundary.” Wasim Akram said while commentating as quoted by Fox Sports.
But, what the teenage left-arm fast bowler proceeded to do a post that error, let alone Wasim, even the most revered writers or speakers would be able to describe it in mere alphabets. Firstly, it happened during the 42nd over when Afridi completely lost track of the trajectory of the ball and ran in exactly the opposite direction.
He can’t do thrice, you’d say! No! It was that sort of the day for Pakistan’s sole wicket-taker of the day. The third and possibly the most hilarious of Afridi’s blunder happened during the 58th over when the left-armer suddenly kicked the ball past the boundary line as if it was a goal post; something which really summed up the body language of the Pakistan unit.
