Watch: Steve Waugh lies down on the ground after scoring hundred
Watch: Steve Waugh lies down on the ground after scoring hundred: Cricketers are known for their unique ways to celebrate wickets and centuries. One such celebration by Steve Waugh appears to have outdone all others! Waugh, who typified the Aussie grit, was known for his big-match temperament.
An Ashes hundred is always cherished by players from both sides. Waugh, batting on 99, seemed anxious to reach his hundred and was kept quiet by some tight bowling from Darren Gough. After a couple of dot balls he pushed one to mid-wicket and hesitantly ran for a single.
The ball ricocheted off the diving fielder and went towards Phil Tufnell at mid-on who tried to run him out. Waugh out of desperation dived full length and managed to deposit himself inside the returning crease.
Since he was safely in Waugh breathed a sigh of relief, and raised his bat lying down before getting up and pointed towards his team and the fans acknowledging their generous round of applause. Waugh surely must have got a feeling of – ‘oh no not again’ – half-way down the track when trying to steal the single. Waugh, Dravid and Tendulkar are joint record holders for being out most times in nervous nineties. These three legends have been dismissed in nineties 10 times each.
