Watch: Super catch from Super Smith vs England: ICC World Cup 2015: Australia vs England the world cup 2015 was considered to be a big match, one it was the first match of the world cup leg in Australia, second also for the fact that Australia were playing at home. Who doesn’t want to start a campaign on a winning note, so did the Aussies comprehensively beating England by a margin of 111 runs.
England was miserable on the field, their bowlers executed well but for a brief period in the beginning and towards the end of the innings. Major part of the first innings was dominated by Aaron Finch’s bat and his 135 propelled Australia to a winning score of 343.
In their batting innings the English men were in self-destruction mode, the wickets which fell were more due to poor shot selection than excellent batting. The Aussie bowlers knew their weakness having recently beaten them in the tri-series. Like always with early wickets the panic button was set ringing in the England dressing room and no body other than James Taylor batted sensibly.
Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the bowlers for the Kangaroos as he picked up a five wicket haul on World Cup debut. One of the wickets that fell to him was Jos Buttler the England wicket keeper. Marsh pitched one up, was there to be driven so did Jos but could not control the drive and it went flying like a rocket towards cowers. Steve Smith who we fondly for his acrobatic fielding call Super Smith anticipated the shot perfectly was well committed into the dive, a full stretch dive with both his hands reaching the ball. He grabbed this blinder, rolled back on to the ground and up he was celebrating his athletic brilliance with his team mates.
England were badly hurt by that time 6 down for 92, a fighting knock from Taylor saved them from bitter humiliation but in the end the total proved to be 111 runs a bit too much for them.
