Watch: Tillakaratne Dilshan deliberately obstructs the batsman in BPL 3

The 20th match in BPL 3 between Chittagong Vikings and Comilla Victorians at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium at Chittagong witnessed a collision between Vikings’ Tillakaratne Dilshan and Victorians’ Imrul Kayes while running between the wickets, which created a lot of drama and had the game paused for a considerable time. The incident took place during 4th ball of the 2nd over innings of the Comilla Victorians’ innings who were chasing Chittagong Vikings’ 136.

Imrul Kayes pushed the Taskin Ahmed delivery towards cover point and took a couple of steps trying for the single but was sent back by Ahmed Shehzad. Dilshan, who was fielding at covers tried to hit the stumps but failed and no one was backing.

Kayes and Shehzad tried to sneak in a run, but the fielder at deep forward made the throw towards the strikers end and in mean time Dilshan tried to run across to collect the ball at the stumps but ended up colliding with Kayes who also tried to move across for the run and both were grounded.

In between, Shehzad kept running and reached the striker’s end and the fielder who collected the ball at strikers’ end threw it to the other side and the stumps were broken. It seemed that Shehzad needed to walk back with the decision was up to the 3rd umpire.

After looking at the replays numerous times the third umpire ruled it not-out and adding to the dismay of the Chittagong Vikings, the umpire awarded five penalty runs to the Victorians as the replays insisted Dilshan deliberately tried to stop Kayes. Along with the penalty, one run was added to Imrul Kayes.

Earlier Chittagong Vikings scored 136 for loss of 5 wickets after been put into bat. Major contributions came from Umar Akmal (49*), Tillakaratne Dilshan (39) and their captain Tamim Iqbal (27). Imrul Kayes’ 37 and Ahmed Shehzad’s 35 helped Comilla Victorians to ease in the chase. Shoaib Malik gave finish touch to the chase with a quick unbeaten 34.
