6. Mark Waugh catches Wajatullah Wasti and sets Pakistan on a collapse
The final of the 1999 World Cup was hype to be an exciting match between two equally matched teams. Pakistan had earlier defeated Australia in group stage and was all ready to do it again, while Australia had made it to its second consecutive World Cup final.
Mark Waugh took an excellent catch off Glen McGrath in second slip to remove opener Wajatullah Wasti when Pakistan was 21 runs in the 6th over. This turned the tide of the match in Australia’s favour and they went on to demolish Pakistan for a paltry 132 with Shane Warne’s 4 wickets. Steve Waugh went on to lift Australia’s second World cup and started the Australian domination.
