In all, South Africa made just 22 runs in the 35 overs they played in the first session of day five. By lunch, the pitch had slowed down evidently and the bounce had become very unpredictable. The good length deliveries were bursting out of the pitch in a dangerous manner and AB de Villiers bear the consequences of the changing conditions.
In the 106th over, Umesh Yadav, coming back for his second spell knocked the bat out of his hands smashing the glove and AB dropped his bat in pain, walking away from the stumps! The physio rushed out to check him. The hand looked swelled and the physio applied the magic spray.
That ball bounced sharply from a full length outside off and hit his bottom thumb as he tried to defend it. Previously, Yadav got three balls to jump from the good length at de Villiers in the space of two overs. Just after the incident, the third ball of the same over also rose sharply at him. Life is definitely tough for the Proteas in the middle right now.
