Virender Sehwag, who leads the Gemini Arabians, was in his usual colors and started off the Masters Champions League with a wonderful six off the first ball by seamer Andy McKay. Sehwag is very well-known for his audacious batting style. First ball boundaries were a regular sight during his playing days but this was a very amazing style to mark the beginning of the extraordinary league.

Sehwag had no problems in flicking a wayward first ball by McKay. McKay ran in gently and bowled a ball around his legs. And, it would be obviously silly to expect Sehwag miss such an easy chance. Sehwag quickly played a powerful leg glance and the ball travelled over the fine leg region for a six. The Nawab of Najafgarh looked effortless while playing the shot and gave the best possible start to the innings. Sehwag added another boundary to the team’s score two balls later to end the first over with 14 runs.

He continued batting with the same conduct and brought the team’s fifty in no time. Another hard-hitter, South African Richard Levi also went on song with him. Thanks to this explosive opening duo, Arabians took just 4.2 overs to go past the fifty runs mark.

However, Viru’s entertaining innings was brought to an end shortly as he was dismissed by Ian Butler. The dashing opener was batting in his flow but could not clear an attempted pull shot. Butler pitched a short length ball, Sehwag mishit it and skied a catch. Hogg completed the dismissal with a brilliant running catch.

The inaugural Masters Champions League began with the Gemini Arabians taking on the Libra Legends today. The ambitious T20 league has brought together some of the greatest names in the history of cricket.
