Watch: The weirdest bowling action you would have ever seen
The game of cricket never ceases to astonish, just when you think you have seen the extreme of anything someone else comes up to overhaul it. If you thought you had seen the weirdest bowling action you are in for a surprise. Somerset County’s official Instagram account shared a video as a part of its Christmas treat and on day 13 they posted this bowling action video.
The match is played on a matting wicket so I am assuming it’s either a low division club match or a corporate match since it was telecast on TV. So as the batsman prepares himself to face the next ball, the bowler who is unknown starts his run-up rolling his left arm. He does that a couple of times and then switches to rotate his right arm.
As he approaches the bowling crease he juggles them both and a few more arm rolls and he is finally ready to deliver. Despite watching it on video you don’t get an idea about his bowling arm until the very moment that he actually delivers the ball. He turns out to be a left-arm spinner. The batsman at the crease was a right-hander and the righties usually struggle against the lefties and if the bowler has such a complex, deceptive action there is not much the batsman can do.
The batting team at that time had scored 83 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 14.1 overs, so the striker decided to go for the big shot. He tried to watch the ball and once he thought he had picked the length of the ball danced down the wicket for a big heave. But he had completely missed it. The ball goes past the bat and lands into the wicketkeeper’s gloves who did a good job to read it.
He was well short of his crease and was stumped. I am not sure of how the match turned out to be there on but the bowler certainly deserves an applause just for his action.
