We all know the benefits of the IPL: Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler, the England wicketkeeper, lavished praises on the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 30-year-old said that the T20 tournament is beneficial, not only financially, but also from the viewpoint of gaining experience. Buttler made his IPL debut in 2016 for Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) and is currently a part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) since 2018.

Buttler’s comments came after he and a few other England players have gotten involved in a fresh controversy. The IPL playoffs are set to clash with the Brits’ Test, starting in June, against New Zealand at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, among others, are the major players, who are likely to miss the Test due to their participation in the IPL. Chris Silverwood, the England head coach, also confirmed their availability for the entirety of the IPL.

“We all know the benefits of the IPL. It’s hugely beneficial, not only to the individual but also for us as an England cricket side. Especially with this IPL being played in India where the World T20 will be played. The monetary rewards are obvious and the experience you gain. There are so many pluses,” Buttler was quoted as saying in The Guardian.

Buttler is a part of the England T20I team that is set to play five T20Is against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Being a potential venue for the T20 World Cup later this year, Buttler stated that playing at the ground could help the players garner a lot of experience.

“It’s a great benefit. Nobody’s played here before, so it’s a big advantage for us to learn about this particular stadium and the conditions. As a white-ball side, the conditions we generally struggle against are when the pitches get slower and the ball takes more spin and having a different gameplan for that.

“It’s great exposure for us to play against the best teams in the tournament in World Cup conditions,” he added.

England, recently, played two Test matches, one of which was a Day-Night affair, in Ahmedabad. However, they ended up losing both the games pretty comprehensively.
