David Miller and his Kings XI Punjab side failed to notch up a win the 2016 edition of the IPL. The 26-year old South African who is currently the skipper of the Punjab-based franchise said that it was wrong decision making that cost them the match.

“It was a low-scoring game but I think we lost far too many wickets at different stages. It slowed down the momentum of our innings,” Miller said after Punjab went down to Delhi Daredevils by eight wickets.

The 26-year old also added that the wicket was completely fine except for a couple of unlucky dismissals. The southpaw also credited Amit Mishra as the latter concluded with figures of 4-11 in his quota of 4 overs.

“I thought the wicket was actually all right, to be honest. Maybe we were unlucky with one or two dismissals but we didn’t make the right decisions in our batting department. Once again (we had) not too many runs (to defend),” Miller said.

“Obviously, you have to assess conditions, and he (Mishra) was bowling really well, but at the same time I think, I mean it’s only T20, we want to encourage each other to express ourselves and play with a lot of freedom,” Miller said.

Miller also said that he backed his batsmen to express themselves and play the shots they were capable of.

“There is a very fine line between that and irresponsibility. It was just one of those things: he bowled really well, you have to give him credit. It is something we might have to chat about in the next couple of games,” he added.

“I do back whatever decision they make on the field. On the other hand, if Marsh had hit him for six, everyone would have been praising him,” Miller said. “It’s one of those instances where he felt like he should be taking him on at that stage, and it is turning into him. Being a left-hander I don’t see it as a bad shot. I thought the shot was on. He just missed the ball. It was catch 22.”

“Mishra was very unlucky to not get five wickets. He bowled very well. Game-changer right there by himself.” Miller summed up.
