'We have a great understanding' - Imam-ul-Haq names Babar Azam as his best friend

Imam-ul-Haq has certainly made a name for himself in the past few years. Nephew of Pakistan legend Inzamam-ul-Haq, the left-handed opener possesses a solid technique, and his knack of playing big knocks makes him even more effective. In fact, Imam has smashed seven ODI centuries in just 46 appearances in the format. With the young batter doing well over the 22 yards, he has also gained massive popularity.

On Tuesday (September 14), the official Twitter account of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video in which Imam answered to the most-googled questions on him.  From his relationship with Inzamam to his fitness quotient, the southpaw opened up about many things. On being asked about his best friend, the 25-year-old didn’t have any hesitation in naming current Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Imam and Babar have been playing together since their Under-19 days. Highlighting the same, Imam said he shares a great camaraderie with the right-handed batsman. He also wished for his best friend’s well-being and success later in the video.

“Yes, the answer for this is Babar Azam. He is my best friend. We have been playing together since the last 10 years or so. Hence, we have a great understanding. For the last one and half years, he is leading the Pakistan team and I am proud of him. I hope he continues serving the national team like this in the future as well,” Imam said in the clip.

Meanwhile, Imam and Babar are currently gearing up for Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand. Three ODIs and as many T20Is will be played in the tour with the games taking place in Rawalpindi and Lahore. With the Men in Green holding the home advantage, they would be confident ahead of the series. However, the Kiwis have a knack of defying the odds and the hosts must be aware of the same.

It must be noted that the high-voltage T20 World Cup 2021 is just around the corner. Hence, both sides would also view the series as a great preparation opportunity. Although Imam is not a part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad, he’ll feature in the ODI series and would like to give his best.
