The Eden Gardens saw a scintillating game of Test cricket. While Sri Lanka held the upper edge for a considerable period of time, India managed to produce a turnaround. In the end, they narrowly avoided a possible defeat at owing to bad light.

Ahead of the second Test match, Dinesh Chandimal remarked that Lahiru Gamage and Rangana Herath would be effective in Nagpur. He also spoke about the Kolkata Test, the attitude change from the previous series and more at the pre-match conference.

Nagpur is a good test wicket

While talking about the previous Test match, he felt that it was a good game. He mentioned that the visitors didn’t make a lot of mistakes apart from the last session. “Kolkata was a good Test match apart from that last session,” Chandimal said.

He thinks that the wicket in Nagpur has lesser grass compared to Kolkata. “Not much grass like Kolkata. We saw so much grass at Eden Gardens. This is much less. This looks a good Test pitch. It’s a challenge for us as a team. We are looking forward to the game,” he added.

We have come here with a mindset to win

The Sri Lankan captain admitted that they had learnt a lot from their previous failures against India. After having been whitewashed at home, the Islanders came up with a different approach at the Eden Gardens.

“We learned a lot from the last Indian series in Sri Lanka. The most important thing is we came here to win the series. Our attitude has changed. As I said every time our fielding also has made a huge difference there’s a lot of energy.”

He further credited the good fielding and looked forward to continue with the current combination.

“We have looked at a six-five combination or six-four plus all-rounder. That’s the combination we are looking at. Most importantly we have come here with a mindset to win a Test match,” he added.

If we execute our plans, we can put India under pressure

While rating India highly as a Test team, Chandimal saw it as a big challenge to defeat the hosts. His plan was to make sure the team stuck to the basics and their game plans.

“India is a very good side. It is a big challenge for us as a team to come here and win a game or a series. But I am sure we can do some miracle here. We have to do our basics, stick to our game plans. In the middle we have to execute our game plans. If we can do that we can put the Indians under pressure,” he stated.
