'We have potential to put two or even three teams' - Dinesh Karthik on India's sturdy bench strength
I don’t think many countries can boast of this bench strength, reckoned Karthik.
It’s no more a problem for team India to field two sets of teams at the same time. Recently when the Test squad was in England, Hardik Pandya was in charge of the squad that took on Ireland. Even last year, when the test team was preparing for England, Shikhar Dhawan and company were in Sri Lanka for a bilateral series. So, it can be easily concluded that there are at least 25 players who are ready to serve the nation at one time.
With that, the question of competition comes up. Ever since IPL came into existence, the competitiveness among players has been a topic to discuss. A lot of players are being tested and only the best ones will survive in International cricket. Despite all that, it’s a privilege for the nation to field two or even three teams at the same go. Even though there’s a lot of competition, Dinesh Karthik is enjoying his time in the middle and is making a difference.
While speaking to the press before the 4th T20I, Karthik addressed how competitive the Indian team has been. He said, “Right now in the Indian team, we have the potential to put out two teams or maybe even three teams in terms of the number of players available. I don’t think many countries can boast of that.”
Dinesh Karthik thanked Dravid and Rohit for showing faith in him
It’s impossible to do what Karthik is doing without proper support from the coach and the captain. At 37 years of age, Karthik is not the future but is still being backed by the management. For the support that helped Karthik to play a fearless brand of cricket, he came up to thank the management for showing faith in him and also showed his gratitude to skipper Rohit Sharma.
Thanking the duo, Karthik said, “Extremely happy (with the backing). This is what I have aimed for all my life. And for the captain and coach to show so much belief in me, it is only fair that I repay the faith back by giving good performances, which will help the team, in many ways, cross the line.”
