We haven't ousted anyone, says Kuldeep Yadav on Ravi Ashwin and Jadeja being left out of India's ODI team
Kuldeep also added that the duo has a lot of experience and he has learnt a lot from them.
The face of the Indian team has changed ever since Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have made a regular appearance in the ODI side. They were given the opportunity during the Sri Lanka series after the 2017 Champions Trophy by ‘resting’ Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. But the way the wrist-spinners performed, both the experienced bowlers were left out since then. Rather, Ashwin hasn’t played an ODI since the CT final against Pakistan.
Both Chahal and Kuldeep are the lead spinners for India in the upcoming World Cup now. Hardik Pandya’s injury concerns has led to Jadeja coming back into the side. But the spin-bowling all-rounder isn’t a certainty yet for the mega event in England. Ashwin is certainly out of the plans for the World Cup now while Jadeja would be looking to perform well in the remaining four ODIs against Australia to solidify his place in the team.
We did well when given the opportunities
Ahead of the second ODI against Australia, Kuldeep Yadav was asked if him and Chahal were the reason for Ashwin and Jaddu to be dropped from the team. The chinaman was quick in the response then and cleared that they just grabbed the chance with both the hands.
“No, no, not at all. We haven’t ousted anyone. It’s just that we have got the opportunities and we did well. They (Ashwin and Jadeja) have always been doing well for India. In Test matches, Ash (Ravichandran Ashwin) and Jaddu Bhai (Ravindra Jadeja) are still playing,” Kuldeep said in the pre-match press conference.
Kuldeep Yadav also praised Ashwin and Jadeja for the way they’ve played in the ODIs before and also went on to say that he has learnt a lot from the duo.
“And we learn a lot from them. They have a lot of experience. When I am in the Test squad, I learn a lot from them. Whenever we got an opportunity, for me and Chahal, we have performed for the team and that helped the team to win, so happy about it,” he added.
