‘We lost everything’ – South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp mourns the destruction of her home furniture
Kapp recently became the Player of the Match in the final of the Women's Hundred.
Marizanne Kapp had a memorable time in the United Kingdom after her team, Oval Invincibles, won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Hundred. On August 21, they beat the Southern Brave by 48 runs at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Kapp missed five games in the tournament due to an injury, but showed her stupendous prowess in the five games she played in the event. However, upon reaching home, Kapp has been greeted with a terrible piece of news.
The 31-year-old’s home furniture was found burnt. The veteran South African all-rounder was devastated by the unfortunate occurrence. She uploaded a picture of the burnt furniture to express her grief.
Kapp captioned the picture and wrote, “Received the worst news ever this morning… our whole life, memories and furniture burnt to pieces… we lost everything.”

Praises from Dane van Niekerk
Earlier, Kapp drew praises from her wife Dane van Niekerk for her stupendous show in the Hundred. In the final of the event, Kapp picked up three wickets of Danielle Wyatt, Gaby Lewis and Sophia Dunkley and conceded only nine runs off 18 balls. All three batters couldn’t open their accounts.
Her spell helped the Invincibles bowl out the Brave for 73 in 98 balls. Prior to that, Kapp turned up with a 14-ball 26 with the help of four fours. In five games in the Hundred, Kapp picked up 11 wickets and scored 150 runs. Van Niekerk oozed pride while speaking on her teammate.
“She’s been incredible. I think I’ve said it a couple of times now, she’s a player for the big moments and I’m just very pleased for her,” Van Niekerk said after the game.
“I said I’m probably the proudest person in this stadium at the moment. She was out with an injury for a little bit in the tournament and to come back and make such an impact just shows you the quality of the player she is. She’s the most hard-working person I know. Nobody deserves it more,” she said.
“I was just so proud of her, she’s so humble, she doesn’t understand what impact she made on the game today,” Van Niekerk added.
