Pakistan recently welcomed Test cricket to their home soil after a hiatus of ten years when Sri Lanka became the first Full-Member nation to visit the terror-ravaged nation for a two-match series. The first Test in Rawalpindi turned out to be a damp squib thanks to inclement weather and bad light.

The hosts- after a blip in the first inning where they were bowled out for 191- stormed back valiantly with each of Shan Masood, Abid Ali, skipper Azhar Ali and T20I captain Babar Azam notching up hundreds followed by teenage sensation Naseem Shah, who became the youngest fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul to script a 263-run-win at the National Stadium in Karachi.

The win in Karachi, not only gave Pakistan sixty valuable ICC Test Championship points, but it also proceeded to break their sequence of six consecutive defeats besides also helping them cap-off what was a forgettable year for Pakistan Cricket. It was a year where the Green Shirts were not only whitewashed away from home but also on their very own soil when a second-string Sri Lankan blanked their No.1 ranked T20I side in the world 0-3.

With the team not doing well and questions hovering around PCB’s decision to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as both the Head Coach as well as chief selector, former Pakistan cricketers have been criticizing the set-up back and forth. And now, a video of Wasim Akram criticizing the national side’s set-up has surfaced on social media something which former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar shared via his Twitter account.

Wasim was quoted as saying in the video, “Those same old methods. To change something, one needs to change the methods and thought process. Do something new too,” said Wasim Akram in the video before adding: “I don’t get it. They talk so highly but their performance is zero.”

2019 just kept getting worse for Pakistan Cricket

Pakistan started the year with a forgettable tour of South Africa where they were blanked 0-3 in Tests, 1-4 in ODIs and 1-2 in the T20Is. This was followed by a 0-5 hammering by the visiting Aussies in the United Arab Emirates before the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led unit were hammered 0-4 by the English ahead of the 50-over World Cup win. The Green Shirts did manage to win all of their games post that heartwrenching defeat to arch-rivals India, but skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed came under heavy scrutiny for yawning during the game.

Matters came to a head when Pakistan proceeded to lose to Sri Lanka in the T20I series at home. Sarfaraz was not only dumped as skipper but also dropped from the entire set-up with Mohammad Rizwan taking his place as ‘keeper and Azhar Ali and Babar Azam taking over as Test and white-ball captains. However, that didn’t change anything as Pakistan were hammered by the Aussies in the T20I series [0-2] and the Test series [0-2].
