We need to be a bit more aggressive says CSK skipper MS Dhoni
We need to be a bit more aggressive says CSK skipper MS Dhoni : The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) v Chennai Super Kings (CSK) match saw something happen for the first time in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015, that the CSK changed its playing XI. Right from the start of the season Dhoni picked a combination which had the enough firepower to beat any team on the day and the right balance with explosive specialist batsmen, world class spinners and effective pacers. Since they are on the top of the table now and with Ravichanran Ashwin injured CSK made a couple of changes to the squad. But at the end of the game and after ending on the losing side skipper Dhoni said he feels the team needs to be a bit more aggressive in their approach.
In the post match interaction with Akash Chopra Dhoni said, “Looking at where we are in the table, I think it’s important we try to be a bit more aggressive, see what we can explore and how we can play,”
Even after the loss to KKR last night, Chennai is still placed at the top of the table with 12 points from 8 matches followed by Rajasthan who also have 12 and KKR with 9.
The CSK top order and Dhoni failed to deliver and they were 5 wickets down for 72 in 6.5 over’s from there getting to 165 was a commendable job and a cameo by left-arm spinner Pawan Negi in the end helped Chennai post a competitive total. Negi struck 27 from 13 balls and had respectable figures (4-0-23-1) with the ball as well. Dhoni praised the 22 years old for his effort with the bat and the ball.
“It was a very good score. The reason we were there was because of Negi, the way he batted and got us a few extra runs. “We lost quite a few wickets, but I felt… something that we as a team are trying to explore … because we had quite a bit of conservative effort.
On his bowling effort Dhoni said, “Negi bowled well, though he went for a few runs, but his bowling was very good.”
At the same time the skipper admitted that he expected Ravindra Jadeja to bowl better as the wicket had assistance for the slower bowlers and it is the kind of wicket that suited Jadeja’s bowling.
Dhoni who accepted they missed the expertise and experience of their frontline spinner said he would have loved to bowl on this wicket; on Ashwin’s injury and his availability for the coming games, he said, “Once we are back in Chennai we’ll evaluate as to how quickly he is healing.”
