'We should run him out' - Glenn Maxwell feels it's tough for Australian bowlers to dismiss KL Rahul

Australia and India will lock horns in three ODIs, three T20Is and four Tests starting from November 27. BCCI recently announced squads for all three formats and KL Rahul bagged a spot in all three squads. Keeping his IPL 2020 form in mind, Indian selectors gave him another chance in Test format.

KL Rahul, who captained KXIP in IPL 2020, had an outstanding season with the willow but couldn’t replicate the same with his captaincy. The KXIP opener smacked 670 runs in 14 innings with a century and five fifties in the tournament. It was quite tough for the opposition bowlers to pick his wicket in the whole season.

Speaking on the same lines, his KXIP teammate Glenn Maxwell reckoned that it would be pretty tough for Australian bowlers to pick KL Rahul’s wicket in the upcoming series. The Australian team management recently had a team meeting and Maxwell gave a cheeky idea of running him (KL) out, as that’s the only way to take his wicket.

“He was a gun [in the IPL],” Maxwell told cricket.com.au while speaking about KL Rahul. “We [Australia] had a team meeting the other day and they came to me and asked how I thought we should get Rahul out, and one of things I said was try and run him out.

“So I think that’s what we’re going to try and do the whole way through the series, try and run him out and hope for the best. He’s a great performer got a great temperament, great head on his shoulders and is extremely calm in pressure situations,” Maxwell added.

Glenn Maxwell scored just 108 runs in 11 innings in IPL 2020. Many cricketing pundits were against Maxwell’s selection in the KXIP Playing XI but KL Rahul gave him enough chances to prove which didn’t happen eventually. He was dropped for the team’s 12th game but the damage was already caused by then.

“I was hitting the ball fine [in the IPL], I just wasn’t getting much of a crack but that can happen. I’m now looking at the bigger picture and understanding my role in the Australian side, trying to put the IPL aside and thinking about what I need to do to get ready for every game,” he said while speaking about his poor IPL form.
