We will be patient with both Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane: Vikram Rathour

The batting coach of the Indian cricket team, Vikram Rathour said that veteran batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are giving their best for the country. Rathour also opined that both the batters have been in good touch with the willow in hand.

Rathour reiterated that Pujara has played some important knocks for the Indian side in the past, and many batters have not scored runs in challenging batting conditions in South Africa. The batting coach also added that the Indian side will remain patient with both the veterans.

“As far as Pujara and Rahane are concerned, they are trying their best, they are giving their best. Rahane was in really good touch but unfortunately, he got out, so has Pujara. Pujara in past has played some important innings for us, you see these are challenging conditions, not many people have scored runs here.

We need to be patient as long as they are trying their best, giving their best as a coaching unit we are fine. Are we getting impatient? Not at this stage, I think,” said Rathour as quoted by India Today.

Cheteshwar Pujara failed to contribute in both innings of the 1st Test

Cheteshwar Pujara failed to contribute for the Indian side in both innings of the 1st Test match against the South African side. While the right-handed batting veteran was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the first innings, Pujara scored a 64-ball 16 in the second essay.

Ajinkya Rahane scored a fluent 48 in the first innings and followed that up with a quick 23-ball 20 in the second essay. Going into the final day, South Africa still requires 211 runs to win with 6 wickets in hand.
