India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun isn’t sweating over the dilemma of having a potential pool of fast bowlers at his disposal. According to him, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav are first choice pacers for Test cricket while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are preferred for limited overs format. The current Indian bowling pack looks pretty impressive as they have won matches and stepped up on the needed occasions.

The Indian cricket team have a packed schedule and therefore it becomes very important to give the required rest to the players and that is when the horses for courses theory comes into play. It becomes highly impossible for a set of bowlers to play non stop cricket, day in-day out, and that is why it is important to keep them fresh and charged up.

“If you look at Shami and Yadav, they are your number one Test bowlers. And Bhuveshwar (Kumar) and (Jasprit) Bumrah have been exceptional and possess all the skills to do well in ODI competitions,” Arun revealed the think tank’s strategy.

Managing the work-load

“With the volume of cricket India is going to play, it is very important that we have pool of bowlers to choose from so that they remain fresh for every form of the game that we play,” explained Arun at pre-match media conference.

Arun stressed on the importance of playing in the domestic matches.”We encourage them to play first-class cricket. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav have been playing first-class cricket and Shami has done pretty well for Bengal (10 wickets from 2 games),” Arun said. Workload management has been a priority, the former India medium pacer said.

Arun heaped praise on the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Both the spinners have been impressive in recent times and have taken wickets at will. “Well these two boys (Chahal and Yadav) have done exceptionally well for us and we would like to take a good look at them before we could come up on a combination for the World Cup. So far they have shaped up really well,” he said.
