The Eliminator game of the IPL 2022 witnessed the Royal Challengers Bangalore seal the victory by knocking out the Lucknow Super Giants and entering the Qualifier 2, where they play against the Rajasthan Royals. Though they kept up well during the chase, the game slipped off their hands when RCB picked some crucial wickets towards the end of the innings, resulting in their loss.

The two new entrants- Gujarat Titans and LSG- were very impressive throughout the league stage and made their way into the playoffs in their first go. LSG had taken the second spot after getting done with their last league match, but RR replaced them when they won against the Chennai Super Kings, thereby putting the debutants into the eliminators.

LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, who played a major role in the team’s success this season, was a bit disappointed after the team’s loss, but he said that he aims to achieve much more next year when the team returns for the 16th edition of the cash-rich event.

The veteran shared a picture of himself in the nets and captioned it: “Hard luck today but a great tournament for our new team. We’ll come back stronger…. Until we meet again! @lucknowsupergiants.”

Rajat Patidar led RCB’s assault with his unbeaten ton

Gambhir has led the Kolkata Knight Riders to a title twice and aimed to take LSG to similar heights this year. However, all his excitement and joy came crashing down when the team lost to RCB by 14 runs in the crucial fixture, thereby failing to move further in the tournament.

Despite skipper KL Rahul’s 79 off 58, LSG could only 193/6 in pursuit of 208. RCB’s onslaught, led by Rajat Patidar‘s unbeaten 112 off 54 balls, pushed LSG to the verge, and although they came close, Harshal Patel and Josh Hazlewood’s tight overs in the death sent the IPL rookies packing.

While LSG will make their return next season, RCB will now face the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan in the penultimate game of the season in order to seal their date with the Gujarat Titans in the final.
