Wesley Barresi claims to know the reason behind Virat Kohli’s spectacular form
India’s Virat Kohli has been in sublime form in the ongoing season across formats while a lot of experts are unable to believe how this man is able to what otherwise seemed humanly impossible. There are talks about his work ethics, his hard work, his mindset and a hoard of other aspects but Netherlands wicketkeeper-batsman Wesley Barresi believes he knows the reason behind his form.
Virat scored the third double century of his Test career today and also recorded the best score by an Indian captain in Tests. After watching his knock Wesley tweeted, “Ever since I gave @imVkohli mouth from behind the stumps at the 2011CWC in India his been brutal like his still angry! #machine #legend”
The background of the story goes back to 2011 when Virat was a rookie in the team with a list of legends and hardly anyone knew about the then 22-year-old top order batsman. Peter Borren, the Netherlands captain was quoted saying, “During the 2011 World Cup, we were playing against India – a squad filled with legends. [Virender] Sehwag, [Sachin] Tendulkar, Yuvraj [Singh]. India had Sehwag and Tendulkar opening, then Yusuf Pathan came in at No. 3, [Virat] Kohli came in at No. 5 and at that time we had never heard of Kohli.
“He was very new on the scene then but he was playing with Sehwag, Tendulkar, Yuvraj and [Mahendra Singh] Dhoni, who were legends. Spinners were bowling and [Wesley] Barresi, standing up the stumps, said: “who the hell is this guy playing with all these legends?
“Soon after that Kohli got bowled and then Barresi said: ‘I’ll never ever hear about you again.'” Kohli turned out to be a pretty good player and obviously things haven’t turned out to be the way Barresi wanted. He’s the worst sledger, but we don’t have a good sledger in the team.”
Well, now not only Wesley but the entire cricketing universe knows who Virat Kohli is!
