West Indies announces ODI and T20 squad for the tour of UAE against Pakistan
West Indies has named their ODI and T20 for the tour to UAE against Pakistan. The Windies selectors have named a few new names in the squad. Evin Lewis, Alzarri Joseph and Kraigg Brathwaite make their way into the ODI squad while the young Nicolas Pooran and Rovman Powell have earned a place in the 15-member T20 squad.
Chris Gayle won’t be part of the West Indies squad due to fitness related issues. Lendl Simmons, too, will be missing out due to medical problems.
Test opener Kraigg Brathwaite has been named in the ODI team and will most likely make his limited overs debut after having played has played 31 Tests since 2011. He was yet to feature in the limited-over team despite making his debut in 2011.
Pooran is one of the best local talents West Indies has at the moment. The attacking southpaw has been making news in the domestic circuit and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) since the past couple of year. This year, Pooran amassed 217 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 197.27 for Barbados Tridents. He is also a useful wicket-keeper.
Evin Lewis and Rovman Powell, both all-rounders, have also made it to the squad due to their impressive show in the CPL. Wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin has made a comeback into the Darren Sammy has again failed to make a cut into the team since getting stripped off his captaincy duties recently.
West Indies will play three T20Is against Pakistan, starting September 23, in the beginning of the tour, which will be followed by a three-match ODI beginning September 30. After the ODI series, the teams will contest in a three-match Test series, which will also include a day-night Test in Dubai, as was confirmed earlier. The West Indies Test squad will be announced later.
