The 2nd Test match of the West Indies – India series ended in a draw after the hosts showed a great fight on the final day as they made sure they didn’t lose wickets. The hosts came out with attacking approach and sent clear signs to India. Roston Chase, who is playing in his maiden Test series built stands along with Jermaine Blackwood, Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder. He scored a century in this innings following a 5-wicket haul which came during India’s first innings. Here we look at all the stats recorded during 3rd day’s play.

2 – Matches taken by Roston Chase to do the double of a century and a five-wicket haul in the same Test. Bruce Taylor had done so on his debut while Jack George also did it in his 2nd game. Ravi Ashwin achieved this feat in his 3rd game while Ian Botham got it in his 4th Test.

2 – Jermaine Blackwood is only the 2nd player to score fifties in both innings of a Test with 100+ strike rate. Virender Sehwag achieved this feat in 2011 at Delhi against West Indies. (Of which ball-to-ball data is available)

3 – Number of times India introduced a spinner ahead of Ravi Ashwin since 2013. They introduced Amit Mishra ahead of Ashwin yesterday. The other instances were gainst Australia at Chennai in 2013 and vs Sri Lanka at Colombo in 2015 were the other two instances.

3 – This is only the 3rd series in which two different players achieved the double of a century and a five-wicket haul in the same Test. West Indies vs Australia in 1955 and West Indies vs India in 1962 are the other two. Interestingly, all the 3 series were hosted by West Indies.

4 – Number of players before Jermaine Blackwood who took less than 50 balls for their fifties in both innings of a Test match. Chris Gayle vs New Zealand in 2012 was last instance and only other instance of a West Indian player doing so.

5 – West Indies’ No.5, 6, 7, 8 scored fifties during WI’s 2nd innings. This is first such instance for West Indies and 5 in overall Test cricket. 3 of the 5 instances have now been recorded against India.

7 – Number of times India have won by innings margin after taking 300+ first innings lead after batting first out of 9 occasions. Other instance where they missed out an innings win was against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2010.

14.3 – Percentage of Test runs Jermaine Blackwood has scored in form of sixes. Among the guys who debuted after 1998, this is the 6th best percentage in Tests. (Min: 900 career runs)

16 – Number of consecutive opposition’s Test innings India have bowled out before the 2nd innings in this Test. This is India’s longest streak beating 13 consecutive innings in 1967 to 1968.

22 – Number of sixes recorded in this Test. Only on 9 occasions 22 or more sixes have been hit in a Test. These are now the joint most in a Test in West Indies. West Indies-South Africa game Basseterre in 2010.

28 – Ravi Ashwin was introduced in 28th over during West Indies’ 2nd innings. Only 3 other times Ashwin was introduced later than that in a Test innings. He was brought in 39th over at The Oval in 2014, in 32nd over at Johannesburg in 2013 and in 30th over at Nagpur in 2012.

304 – First innings lead taken by India in this game. This is the 4th highest first innings lead India have taken in a Test in which they failed to win (Draw / Loss).

340 – Runs scored by West Indies on the final day. These are now the most runs scored on the 5th day of a Test in West Indies. Previous highest was 331 in Gros Islet between West Indies and Sri Lanka Test in 2003.

1966 – Roston Chase became the first West Indies player since Gary Sobers in 1966 to take a 5-wicket haul and score a century in the same Test match.

1998 – Last time a Test at Sabina Park ended in a draw was in 1998 between West Indies and England which was called off due to bad pitch. Since then 15 Test matches at this ground produced results.

2009 – Last time before Jermaine Blackwood, a batsman took 47 or lesser balls for his fifty in both the innings was Tillakaratne Dilshan in 2009 against New Zealand at Galle. Dilshan took 30 and 35 balls respectively for his fifties in that game.
