West Indies v Pakistan 2nd Test – Pakistan Player Ratings
Here is how the players from Pakistan performed in the second Test
Having won the T20 and ODI series and gaining a 1-0 lead in the 3-Test series, Pakistan went into the second Test against West Indies in a bid to win the third series of the tour. But it didn’t turn out to be the merry game for them as they crumbled against the hosts. West Indies batted first after winning the toss and amassed 312 runs courtesy a brilliant century from Roston Chase and a fifty from Jason Holder.
In reply, Pakistan scored 393 which was powered by a century from Azhar Ali and half-centuries from Ahmed Shehzad and Misbah-ul-Haq. They had a lead of 81 runs but they allowed West Indies to 268 in their second innings and lost the advantage. Chasing 187 to win, they suffered a major collapse and were dismissed for just 81 runs and gave the hosts a win by 106 runs.
Here are the player ratings for the Pakistan team from the match:
Azhar Ali – 8/10
The opening batsman made the perfect start to Pakistan’s innings and shared a stand of 155 runs for the first wicket with Ahmed Shehzad. He ended with 105 runs off 278 balls with 9 boundaries and his efforts played the major role in giving his side a sizeable first innings lead. But he failed in the second innings and got out for just 10 runs.
Ahmed Shehzad – 7/10
The right-hander was instrumental in Pakistan’s first innings score of 393. He had an excellent partnership with Azhar for the first wicket and scored 70 runs off 191 balls with 8 fours and was the first wicket to fall in the innings in the 56th over to Bishoo. But in the second innings, he could manage only 14 runs and consumed 61 balls.
Babar Azam – 0/10
The batsman batted at number 3 in both the innings and failed to score a single run in either of them. He conceded a pair in the Test match and so his rating is a big zero.
Younis Khan – 2/10
The experienced campaigner had a terrible game and failed to make an impact in any of the innings. In the first innings, he went back without scoring and in the second innings too, just could score 5 runs and lost his wicket to Jason Holder.
Misbah-ul-Haq – 7/10
The skipper of Pakistan played a wonderful knock in the first innings but was unlucky to be dismissed on 99. He had a great partnership with Azhar of 98 runs that gave them the solidity during the middle stages. But as all others fell in the second innings, he too failed to trouble the scorers and fell for a duck.
Asad Shafiq – 3/10
The right-hander was highly ineffective in the match and suffered two low scores. In the first innings, he made just 15 runs in 66 balls and in the second, just like 4 others, departed for a duck.
Sarfaraz Ahmed – 5/10
The wicket-keeper batsman made only 9 in the first innings and found himself at the crease at 30/5 in the second innings. His team was struggling big time and he was the only one who hung around for a while. He made 23 runs and was the highest scorer amongst all the batsmen.
Shadab Khan – 4/10
The leg-spinner had a forgettable outing in the match and didn’t contribute a lot. In the first innings, he picked up just one wicket at the expense of 90 runs and went wicketless in the second after conceding 55 runs.
Mohammad Amir – 6/10
Amir had good returns in the first innings when he bagged 3 wickets for 65 runs. He accounted for the wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite, Kieran Powell and Roston Chase. But in the second, he could get just one wicket. With the bat, he hung around for a while and had scores of 10 and 20 in 2 innings.
Yasir Shah – 8.5/10
There were high expectations from the leg-spinner going into the match. In the first innings, he had figures of 83/2 but totally turned it around in the second and ended with magnificent figures of 94/7. He was the only bowler in the second innings who looked like taking wickets each time he was on.
Mohammad Abbas – 7/10
Playing just the second Test of his career, Abbas began well and picked up 4 wickets in the first innings that included the important wicket of Jason Holder that also ended the partnership of 132 between him and Chase. In the next innings, he managed to scalp 2 more wickets and ended up being one of the positives for Pakistan from the game.
