All the statistical highlights from the annihilation of the home team on the 2nd day of the Kingston Test:
The relentless Bumrah:
3 – Jasprit Bumrah became only the 3rd Indian to take a hat-trick in the Test cricket. Harbhajan Singh against Australia in the 2001 Kolkata Test and Irfan Pathan against Pakistan in the 2006 Karachi Test are the other players with a Test hat-trick for India.
35 – Jasprit Bumrah completed his 5-wicket haul in 35 balls; the 4th fastest 5-wicket haul by an Indian in Tests. Harbhajan’s 5-fer came in only 27 balls in a Test match against the West Indies in 2006 also hosted in Jamaica.
20 – Bumrah’s first five wickets came across 20 deliveries; the 3rd fewest any Indian has taken five wickets in space of 20 or fewer deliveries. Maninder Singh took five wickets in space of 16 balls in the 1986/87 Bangalore Test against Pakistan while Venkatesh Prasad had five wickets from 18 balls in the 1998/99 Chennai Test also against Pakistan.
Stats: Jasprit Bumrah claims a hat-trick on his way to yet another 5-wicket haul
Ishant ends his wait:
126 – Ishant Sharma scored his maiden fifty in Test cricket in his 126th innings. Only James Anderson (131) needed more innings for maiden fifty in this format than Ishant. Courtney Walsh (185) and Bob Wills (128) have played more Test innings than Ishant without a fifty.
Among Indians, the previous most innings for maiden fifty was Bishan Singh Bedi in his 71st innings while EAS Prasanna (84) and BS Chandrasekhar (80) played over 80 innings without a fifty.
Holder @ 100:
39 – Jason Holder became the 5th player with the all-round double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Test cricket for West Indies. The WI captain needed 39 matches for this feat; the fewest among the five players.
8 – The 5-wicket haul in this game is the 8th as captain in International cricket for Jason Holder. Imran Khan (12), Richie Benaud (9) and Bishan Singh Bedi (8) are the other players with 8 or more 5-fers in Internationals as captain.
Shami’s run less streak:
6 – Mohammad Shami now has spent six consecutive Test innings without scoring a run. This is the joint-longest streak without a run for India alongside BS Chandrasekhar who also didn’t score in six straight innings on the 1977/78 Australia tour. The World record is held by Chris Martin who spent nine consecutive innings without scoring a run between 2000 and 2004.
