West Indies vs Pakistan, 2nd Test Stats Review: Shaheen Afridi, Fawad Alam create new milestones, WI bag an embarrassing record
Shaheen Afridi registered his best figures in Test cricket.
After five days of an exciting battle between the bat and the red cherry, Pakistan defeated West Indies by 109 runs in the second Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica. It was indeed a comprehensive win for Pakistan as they dominated the home team in all three departments. While Fawad Alam shone with the bat in hand, Shaheen Afridi was the stand-out performer in the bowler’s department.
Notably, West Indies had won the first Test by one wicket and held an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. However, Pakistan bounced back in the must-win game and leveled the series 1-1. As far as the happenings of the game are concerned, the home team won the toss and elected to bowl. The decision seemed to be spot on as Pakistan lost three wickets with just two runs on the board.
However, skipper Babar Azam joined forces with Fawad Alam and the duo guided their side to safety. While Azam was dismissed for 74, Alam advanced to his fifth Test ton. The southpaw, in total, slammed 124 off 213 deliveries as the visitors declared at 302/9.
In reply, West Indies put up a horrendous batting show and got bundled out for 150 runs. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi was the wrecker-in-chief for Pakistan, having scalped a six-wicket haul. This way the visitors earned a 152-run first-innings lead on a tricky Kingston surface. Enhancing their tally, the visitors declared at 176/2 in their second innings.
A target of 329 never seemed within the Caribbean team’s reach but a draw was still a possibility. The hosts did put a commendable fight in the fourth innings but got folded for 219 runs. Afridi again shone with the ball, having scalped four wickets. He was also named the Player-of-the-Match as well as the Player-of-the-Series.
