West Indies will tour Pakistan for a T20I series
Earlier in 2017, Sri Lanka played the 3rd T20I of the series in Lahore.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been trying hard to get their partner cricket boards to sign in for a series or at least a few matches in Pakistan. After the World XI tour where they played three T20Is, the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are also slated to be hosted in the country. This time, they’re moving out of just Lahore and Karachi will host matches as well.
On a recent tour, Sri Lanka also played the last T20I in Lahore and the game attracted a lot of attention, the game was sold out and played just as it was supposed to be. Among the first of few teams to have agreed to play in Pakistan is West Indies. A reporter from the Dawn News broke the news that the series has been confirmed.
Windies will reach Lahore in the last part of March and will play 3 T20Is in the series. PCB Chairman Najam Sethi talking to DawnNews amidst the ICC meeting in the UAE divulged the details of the tour. He also mentioned that Pakistan might soon be flying off to the United States of America for a tri-nation series.
The T20I series between the two teams was earlier scheduled to be played in November 2017 but the weather in Lahore wasn’t too favourable with dense smog surrounding the region. That coupled with the fact that most of the Windies players were already playing the Bangladesh Premier League and their availability for this commitment would’ve been a concern.
Pakistan recently toured New Zealand and though the ODI series was one to forget, Sarfraz Ahmed’s men bounced back really strong. They beat the Kiwis in the T20I series 2-1 that also escalated them in the ICC T20I team rankings and the Men in Green now occupy the topmost spot.
