‘We’ve survived on phone calls’ – Michael Slater bracing for re-union with his kids after isolation

The coronavirus pandemic has created quite a bit of panic in most nations across the globe. One of the countries is Australia where over 5,100 cases with 24 deaths have been recorded. A number of cricketers have been staying in isolation due to the outbreak. The situation isn’t any different for Michael Slater, the former Australian batsman, who has been isolating himself for the last few days.

Slater was one of the commentators in the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). It can be one of the reasons why has been in quarantine. However, now with one day left, the veteran couldn’t hold on to his excitement of meeting his beloved kids. In the last few days, the 50-year-old Slater has been interacting with his kids through phone calls.

To express his joy, he uploaded a picture where he was embracing his children. Captioning the picture, Slater wrote, “One more Day of Isolation and then I can finally see my beautiful kids. We’ve survived on phone calls but I can’t wait to hang and give them a huge Daddy squeeze! #cherubs,”

Due to the novel virus, the Australian government has decided to seal the borders for the next six months. Cricket has also come to a halt in the country. The Women’s T20 World Cup finished in the nick of time before the coronavirus spit venom in full flow. But there are clouds over hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup. Doubts have also been cast over India’s tour of Australia later this year.

Shakib Al Hasan away from his kids as well

Apart from Slater, Shakib Al Hasan, the prolific Bangladesh cricketer, has also been staying away from his family. A few days ago, the southpaw reached the United States, but he didn’t meet his wife and daughter. In a video on his Facebook page, Shakib said that the reasons behind self-isolation.

He came via flight and it made him suspect that he might have caught the virus. Hence, he headed straight to the hotel. Shakib also talked about the pain of not being able to see his daughter. Moreover, he made the people aware of the importance of staying healthy and sanitised.
