Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah turn saviours with the willow for India
India started Day 5 with their scorecard reading 181/6, and with a lead of 154 runs. India lost 2 quick wickets and was reduced to 194/7. Both Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, two of India’s only hopes with the bat perished, and the Indian side was staring down the barrel.
Things turned worse when Ishant Sharma fell too, with the scorecard reading 209/8. And, that was when Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah came together and posted a match-winning partnership of 89 runs for the 9th wicket.
While Jasprit Bumrah scored a 64-ball 34*, Mohammed Shami smashed the England bowlers around and scored a sensational 56* off 70 deliveries. India set England a target of 272 for victory.
The Indian bowlers then came out and produced a riveting performance with the red cherry. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah breathed fire with the ball, and the England batsmen had no answers to the questions asked by the visitors.
While Bumrah scalped 3 wickets, Siraj picked up 4 wickets and rattled the Joe Root led side. England was bowled out for a paltry total of 120 in their second innings and went down to India by 151 runs. The third Test of the series will be played from 25th August 2021 at Headingley.
