Australian prolific batter David Warner had recently opined his views on the sacking of him from captaincy by SRH in the midway and also dropping him from the side. He was highly concerned about how it could take on the mindset of the youngsters on the side and the fans that were so passionate about him. Warner was also quite happy to have the conversations of dropping him rather than sacking from captaincy after all the success he had brought to the side.
Warner has been one of the best IPL players in the history of the tournament with some outstanding numbers to his name and has immensely contributed to the franchise. The left-hander has single-handedly won games at the top of the order and an ordinary season last year had provoked SRH management to hand over the captaincy to Kane Williamson. The Australian match-winner wasn’t retained by the franchise recently ahead of the mega auctions by SRH.
David Warner feels sad for the youngsters in the team
Warner worried about the fact that the message sent by SRH of dropping a successful captain would certainly affect the rest of the players. He admitted that he was ready to have conversations with the management regarding his own form or the captaincy issues. Williamson is expected to lead the side in the upcoming edition of IPL 2022.
“If you are going to drop a captain and then not pick him in the team after what he has done, what message does that send to the young kids in the team? What message does that send to the rest of the group? What hurt me the most is that the other guys are now thinking, ‘oh, this could happen to me.”
At the end of the day, whatever happens, cop it cop it on the chin. If you want to have those conversations, just have them. It’s not hard. Don’t shy away from them. I am not going to bite. I am going to sit here and accept that for what it is because you are not picking me in the team.” David Warner said on chat show Backstage with Boria.
Warner was dropped from the playing XI after eight games as SRH finished last in the points table of IPL 2021. He did manage an excellent comeback in international cricket by bagging the man of the series award in the T20 World cup 2021.
