When I feel hurt, I move on quickly: Shikhar Dhawan after his 143 in Mohali
Dhawan came back to form after a poor run of form.
India lost the fourth ODI to Australia in Mohali, bringing the series to a decider final ODI at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. The next 50-over affair for India will be the World Cup that starts on May 30. After two back to back defeats for India, at Ranchi and Mohali, it might seem that the Men in Blue are losing momentum right before the big event. But like every cloud has a silver lining, India has Shikhar Dhawan.
The fourth ODI against Australia at the PCA Stadium saw a brilliant knock from the 33-year-old left-handed opening batsman. Dhawan, as we know, has the knack of bouncing back just when his critics write him off. The Gabbar himself says he manages to stay sailing in the toughest of times by shutting out the criticism that comes during his barren patches or weak form.
Dhawan’s barren period lasted for as long as six months as he was without an international hundred during that period. A jinx that was broken with his spectacular innings of 143 off 115 on Sunday. The innings consisted of 18 fours and three sixes. It, however, ended up on the losing side as the youngster Ashton Turner turned things around for the visitors with his marvelous 43-ball 84.
How Shikhar Dhawan remains calm amidst criticism
The ever jolly Shikhar Dhawan said living in his own bubble helps him keep it calm in the mind when asked how the experienced campaigner reacts to criticism. “First of all, I don’t read newspapers and I don’t take information which I don’t want to. So I don’t know what’s happening around me and I live in my own world. So, I decide in which direction my thoughts are going.”
The best way to deal with pressure is to keep one’s composure, said Dhawan, who masks the pressure within with a smile on his face. “I perform best when I am calm. There’s no point in cribbing or being sad,” he said after the match. “When I feel hurt, I move on quickly. And I don’t really know what people are writing. I make sure that I am in a positive frame of mind and keep doing my process,” he added.
