'When we went to the hospital, I couldn't breathe' - Mohammad Rizwan reveals what he went through before Australia-Pakistan semi-final clash
Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial match against Australia, Rizwan was shifted to the ICU and spent 35 hours there.
Just two days prior to Pakistan’s T20 World Cup semifinal game against Australia, keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan had to deal with a tough situation. However, he has now opened up on the entire matter in detail as he stated the difficulties he faced owing to his health. He also pointed that he was determined to perform for the side and that helped in his speedy recovery.
According to reports, after having complained of severe chest pain, he was taken to the hospital on November 9 at 12:30 am. He also found it difficult to breathe and was suffering from fever, persistent cough and a few other issues for the last few days. Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial semi-final match against Australia, Rizwan was shifted to the ICU and spent 35 hours there.
However, this did not restrict him from exuding his flair on the ground. He featured in the semi-final game and played impressive innings of 67 runs off 52 balls which included as many as three fours and four sixes.
Rizwan opens up on his critical situation
“I wasn’t feeling well, I was going to the hospital and my family was there at the hotel. I told them that I am going downstairs for the ECG in the hotel and when we went to the hospital, I couldn’t breathe. And the doctors said that two of my tubes were halted too. They weren’t telling me the whole thing. Then I asked a nurse and she said that if I was 20 minutes late, two of my tubes would’ve been torn. They used to come in and do different types of tests.
“I remember the doctor’s words and he said that he wants me to play in the semi-final for Pakistan. But when he told me that your condition is not great. I told him that if something happens to me after the match, I wouldn’t be disappointed because everything is for Pakistan. This boosted them as well and then they did things which helped me recover quickly despite being painful,” Mohammad Rizwan said in a media interaction.
The keeper batter has experienced a golden form with the willow lately. He became the first-ever player to score 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year. Talking further about the same he credited Richard Pybus, who helped him to deal with certain mental aspects of T20. He also asserted that the coaches played a vital role in his success.
