When you come to SA‚ you have to be very careful when you go to racial comments: Faf du Plessis
But, he was quick to point out that the decision making is something that is out of their control.
The racist comments made by Pakistani skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed have landed him in some serious trouble. He could be suspended for a few games for calling Andile Phehlukwayo a ‘black guy’ during the second ODI. While he has been receiving severe criticism in the last two days, South African skipper Faf du Plessis came out in his support.
Even though Faf condemned this behaviour, he noted that Sarfaraz immediately apologised for the rude comments. The South African skipper, though, was clear that this kind of behaviour isn’t something they take lightly as a team. But, he mentioned that an immediate apology from Ahmed meant that there was regret on his part.

“This is not something that we take lightly as a team‚ but the fact that Sarfaraz apologised straight away means there is regret from his part,” Faf du Plessis said expressing disappointment towards the comments.
“When you come to South Africa‚ you have to be very careful when you go to racial comments,” he further added ahead of the 3rd ODI. Faf du Plessis then said that they forgave Sarfaraz Ahmed just because he said ‘sorry’. But, he was quick to point out that the decision making is something that is out of their control. He even said that it was up to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take a decision.
“We forgive Sarfaraz because he said sorry. He has apologised and taken responsibility for it‚ it is out of our hands and ICC will have to deal with it now,” concluded Faf.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the selectors are most likely to appoint veteran cricketer Shoaib Malik as the interim captain. Sarfaraz Ahmed might not get to feature in the third ODI against South Africa with a suspension on cards.
