‘Whenever you call me Thala, I feel like a real hero’ – MS Dhoni salutes healthcare workers amid COVID-19 crisis

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has lauded the medical fraternity for their service and hard work during the coronavirus pandemic. Ever since the global pandemic came into the picture, doctors, nurses, and all other healthcare workers had the onus to come forward and help the people in need. When the positive cases were on a rise, the healthcare workers had to work even more tirelessly.

With the medical fraternity contributing so significantly to society, Dhoni hailed the healthcare workers for their services. In a video campaign released by Kauvery Group of Hospitals on Friday to recognize the efforts of the fraternity, Dhoni, its brand ambassador, asserted doctors and nurses were the real heroes they gave their best to ensure the safety of others. The wicketkeeper-batter also said he feels very proud whenever someone calls him Thala.

“Thala…whenever you call me Thala, I feel like a real hero. But our real heroes are doctors and nurses who save lives day in and day out. It is their sacrifice and hard work which keeps us safe and healthy,” Dhoni, who is known as ‘Thala’ (leader) among his CSK fans, said in the video message.

Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer is currently in UAE, leading Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The three-time champions have enjoyed a sensational run this season and subsequently qualified for the finals. While the Men in Yellow won one game after another in the competition, Dhoni didn’t do much with the bat.

Hailed as one of the finest finishers in the history of the game, Dhoni struggled to score freely in the league stage of the competition. However, he stepped up in the all-important encounter. During the Qualifier 1 clash against Delhi capitals, the 40-year-old slammed 18 off mere six balls, taking CSK to a thrilling four-wicket win.

The triumph also saw CSK getting qualified for the finals for the record eighth time. Kolkata Knight Riders are the other team feature in the summit clash and it would be interesting to see how the proceedings unfold. Notably, the two sides also met in IPL 2012 final and KKR walked away with a five-wicket win.
