Mumbai Indians (MI) won their fifth IPL title this season under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Ever since then, the talks of him taking over India’s captaincy in the limited-overs formats have increased. At the same time, Virat Kohli not winning the IPL even once in eight years while leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has also come under the scanner.

A debate has been going on for the last few days if Rohit Sharma would’ve won the IPL so many times while leading RCB or for that matter any other team. One of the prominent names raising this question was former India cricketer Aakash Chopra. However, Rohit has now responded to all such talks and doesn’t seem to be pleased with it at all.

He stated that there is no reason to think if he can win the IPL while leading with the other teams. Moreover, the 33-year-old also cleared that he and franchise are going hand in hand in terms of planning. “Lot of people, I hear say that can he (Rohit) do it with other teams? Firstly, why shall I need to do it with other teams? There is a certain way this franchise wants to go and same direction I want to go as well, both as a player and leader,” he was quoted as saying by Outlook.

MI doesn’t believe in chopping and changing, insists Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also lauded the franchise for believing in the team every time they take the field. MI have a solid core now and those players have been playing for them for close to 4 years now. Even in the mega auction, the franchise managed to retain or use RTM card for them. The most experienced player, Kieron Pollard, has been part of the team since the 2010 season.

“Did this team become good overnight? No. It’s just that this franchise doesn’t believe in chopping and changing. And every player, including Rohit Sharma, was available (2011) at auctions. Just that MI picked and believed in building a team,” Rohit further added.
