For yet another time the WI v IND series, Rain made a divine intervention as the entire second day’s play was eventually consumed by the rains. Multiple outfields, as well as pitch inspections from time to time eventually, saw the play called off without a ball being bowled. While the first and second sessions saw the wet outfield not allow the umpires to resume play despite the humid and dry conditions of the day, the third brought a pelting of rain, something that prompted the umpires to call off the day prematurely.

This means that only a sliver of one session has been played in the fourth and final Test between India and the West Indies on Day One that saw the West Indies amass 62 runs while the Indians also made a minuscule impact by claiming two quick wickets in the game. Kraigg Brathwaite was the star of the show as he provided a bit of entertainment with the bat. His brand of ‘Calypso Cricket’ as they call it was there for the one and half hour that play was possible.

However, the disappointing aspect will be the fact that only 22 overs have been possible of the 180 overs’ available in both the day’s play. Although the sun beat down hard on Port of Spain from almost 2 pm, there was not a single delivery possible as the rain made yet another intervention just 15 minutes later. India needed to win this Test to retain their No. 1 Test ranking and not lose it to Pakistan. West Indies were 62 for 2 after 22 overs, all bowled in the first session on the first morning.

Day three of the final Test is also expected to have showers as the Indians are now beginning to feel their noisy neighbors Pakistan breathing down their necks.
