Odean Smith played an all-round hand to win the first ODI for West Indies against Ireland and he has shown promising signs of being a big hitter with an enormous six that hit a standing car. Smith came into bat at the fall of the 8th wicket and he had just a few overs to get his eye in until he unleashed his powerful maximums. Smith hit two sixes and a four in his 18 run innings in just eight balls with a strike rate of 225.

He cannot have a better start to his ODI career as he picked up two wickets in his late spell that changed the game in the host’s favor. Having made his T20 International debut in 2018, Smith has been one of the names discussed for selection and this performance will earn him a lot of confidence as well. The West Indian side went on to win the close encounter by 24 runs in the end against Ireland to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.

In the third ball of the 48th over, Smith hit a humungous six that went on to create a dent in the car standing outside the Sabina Park in Jamaica. The 25-year-old took on Joshua Little for an 84 meter six in the deep extra cover region and it hit the standing car with such force that the social media got excited. A popular social media page had posted a video of the six on Twitter and the fans went ecstatic watching the six sail over.

“Six hitting zone, park at your own risk,” the post read.

Meanwhile, the second ODI between West Indies and Ireland has been postponed after two new Covid-19 cases had arrived in Ireland camp. Earlier, Paul Stirling, Simi Singh, and Ben White had tested positive for the virus and were under isolation while the tally has now risen to five. The third ODI is scheduled to take place on the 14th of January.
