'Will create a system where Ravi Shastri is involved more in the NCA' - Sourav Ganguly
According to Ganguly, they want to create a system where Ravi Shastri's involvement is more in the NCA till the time he is the head coach.
The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has set the ball rolling ever since he took over the coveted position last week (October 23). From meeting Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the sidelines of the team selection for the upcoming three-match T20I series and the two Tests against Bangladesh unit to championing the cause of staging the first-ever Pink Ball Test at the iconic Eden Gardens to now having a meeting with his former deputy and the current director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Rahul Dravid, it has been a busy week for the former Indian captain.
The National Cricket Academy, originally set-up for nurturing the feeder line of Indian cricket, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in the past few months. The academy, in the past few years, has been basically reduced to a rehabilitation center for injured cricketers.
Earlier this week, the BCCI had asked the NCA the reasons as to why Bhuvneshawar Kumar was taking so much time to recover from his injury. The academy has in the past been accused of mishandling the injury management of Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, costing more than a year of International cricket.
Sourav Ganguly has big plans going ahead
But, the BCCI president has plans to revive the coveted organization. On Wednesday, Ganguly along with office bearers of the BCCI met NCA head Rahul Dravid. The BCCI has plans to transform NCA in Bengaluru into a state-of-the-art facility on the lines of Cricket Australia’s High-Performance Centre in Brisbane. Ganguly and other officials also visited the proposed land. According to Ganguly, they want to create a system where Ravi Shastri’s involvement is more in the NCA till the time he is the head coach.
“We will create a system where Ravi’s involvement is more in the NCA till the time he is coach. Rahul (Dravid) is there, Paras Mhambrey ( India U19 and A coach) is there. Bharat Arun (India bowling coach) goes. We will try and make it a good centre of excellence but actually NCA does a lot of work. When you go in there, you realise the hard work they put in,” Ganguly said as quoted by NDTV.
