Windies v India 4th ODI – Statistical Highlights

Windies have finally sparked some life in the series as they beat the Indian side in the 4th ODI, who quite literally dug their own grave and fell into it while chasing a mere 190-run target. The Indian bowlers managed to keep the Windies batsmen tied as they restricted the home side to 189/9.

In reply, India lost three early wickets but Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni once again ensured they didn’t collapse. However, Dhoni’s lack of urgency even in the fag end of the chase having faced a decent number of balls saw the required rate shoot up and irresponsible shot selections by all-rounders resulted in the Men in Blue getting bowled out for 178 in the final over.

1 – Number of targets lower than 190 that Team India have failed to chase in a full 50-over ODI game. India lost to Australia while chasing 188 in 1990 by 18 runs. However, they have failed to chase 8 other targets lower than the 190 vs Windies but all those were in reduced matches.

3 – Ajinkya Rahane became the 3rd Indian opener to score a fifty-plus score in 4 or more consecutive ODI innings. Sachin Tendulkar (3 times) and Manoj Prabhakar (3 times) were the other Indian openers with this feat.

3.68 – The overall run-rate of 3.68 in this game is the lowest in an ODI since 2011 where more than 95 overs were bowled. In fact, this is the only ODI since 2011 with a run-rate lower than four after 95 overs of play.

4 – Number of fifty-plus scores for Ajinkya Rahane in this series so far. He became the 6th Indian to score 4 or more fifty-plus scores in a bilateral series.

5/27 – Jason Holder’s figures of 5/27 in this game are the 3rd best bowling figures and only the 4th five-wicket haul by a Windies captain in ODI cricket.

108 – Balls MS Dhoni took to complete his fifty in this match; the 2nd slowest ODI fifty for an Indian since 1998. The slowest fifty in this period is by Sadagoppan Ramesh who needed as many as 116 balls to get to his half century in 1999 against Kenya.

295 – Number of ODIs MS Dhoni has played as a wicketkeeper so far; the 2nd most by any player. He went past Mark Boucher who featured in 294 ODIs as a keeper.

297 – Runs Ajinkya Rahane has scored in this series; the most by any Indian in an ODI series/tournament on West Indies soil. The previous most was 257 runs by Rohit Sharma in 2011 in the 5-match bilateral series.

2006 – Last time India failed to chase a target below 200 in ODI cricket (irrespective of overs) was in 2006 also against Windies at Kingston. They had lost by one run while chasing 199 in that game.

2013 – Last time a team batted full 50 overs against India and failed to cross the 200-run mark was Sri Lanka at Cardiff in 2013 CT semis. SL ended up scoring 181/8 in that game. Prior to that, it was Ireland (193/10) in 2007 at Belfast.
