‘Wish if we could provide physio support to Mujeeb Ur Rahman’ – Ravi Ashwin’s cheeky remark ahead of Afghanistan’s match against New Zealand

Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has come with a cheeky statement on the Afghanistan-New Zealand match. He has joked around stating that it would be great if India could provide physio support to Mujeeb Ur Rahman so that the latter can take charge on the field against the Black Caps. The Afghan spinner has missed the last two matches as he is recovering from injury.

After having faced back-to-back defeats in the mega event, India finally managed to secure victory against the Mohammad Nabi-led side. However, even if India win all their remaining two matches they aren’t sure of qualifying for the semi-final. Their fate largely depends on the results of the other matches in Group 2. For India to advance, either Afghanistan or Namibia have to defeat New Zealand.

Taking this into account, Ashwin said that he wished Team India could provide some help to Mujeeb so that the lethal spinner could help the Afghans beat the Kiwis. Having said that, he also added that Afghanistan have played some good cricket and wished them luck for their upcoming fixture.

“It’s a funny game and Afghanistan has played good cricket and a lot of our hopes rest with them, so all the very best to them. I really wish if we could provide any physio support to Mujeeb we can get him on the field. That is all we can hope for,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in a press conference.

India did not have a splendid start to their World Cup campaign. They lost their opening fixture to Pakistan and couldn’t bring a shift in their fortunes against New Zealand as well. However, with a dominating all-rounder display, the team secured its first victory of the tournament against Afghanistan.

Speaking about the talks in the dressing room, Ashwin said that everyone is raring to make an impact in the remaining two games. “The discussion that we need to have is about how we are going to go about the couple of games we have left. Everyone is planning and wanting to go on a real high for the last two games. The rest of it is not in our control, we just have our fingers crossed,” Ashwin added.
