Indian women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana turned 21 today on 18th July 2017. The charming left-hander took the ICC Women’s World Cup by storm at the initial stages as she opened her account with two stellar knocks. Her 90 against the Three Lions showed a lot of promise and she followed it up with a trailblazing century against the Caribbean.
Unfortunately, the batsman seems to have lost her magic touch since then as she lost her wicket cheaply in the next five matches. Weakened by her dismal run of form, a crestfallen Smriti Mandhana was also spotted in the dressing room with tears in her eyes after being dismissed by the Australians.

However, the cricketing world showered the stylish stroke player with wishes as she turned a year older. From the destructive Virender Sehwag to the Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj, a plethora of cricketers took to their Twitter handle to share their greetings.
While Virender Sehwag termed her as a rising star and hoped for her success, powerhouses going by the name of BCCI and ICC also congratulated the young star.
Viru’s tweet read “Happy Birthday to a rising star @mandhana_smriti . May you continue the rise. Best wishes for the semis !”
This is not the first time Virender Sehwag has heaped praised on the cricketer known for her infectious smile. Sehwag gave a brilliant reply to a fan’s tweet earlier who stated that Smriti is the Virender Sehwag of women’s cricket. The Nawab of Najafgarh came up with the most appropriate answer and stated that she is not the Virender Sehwag of women’s cricket but she is the first Smriti Mandhana. The tweet drew applause all over social media for being absolutely spot on.
The Indians will really hope that the downpour of wishes work as a boost to Mandhana’s low morale at the moment. India will bank upon the cricketer for providing them with a blazing start against the Australians when the two teams meet the day after in the semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.
