Women’s World T20 2018: Day 5- Preview
One team stands on the verge of elimination.
The 2018 Women’s World T20 in West Indies is steadfastly entering the business end with most of the teams playing half their group matches. While teams like Australia and India have made a stupendous start and have almost qualified for the next round, a few teams are still required to do plenty of work in order to keep themselves in contention for progression in the event.
The matches on the fourth day will be played at Providence Stadium in Guyana and the pitch there has helped the bowlers as well as the batsmen. The Indian and Australian batsmen have dominated thus far while spin has already played a part in restricting the batsmen from unleashing their wide range of strokes. It will be interesting to see how the track behaves on the fifth day.
Here’s the prelude of what’s on offer on Day 5 of World T20:
Match 9- Pakistan vs Ireland
Pakistan, following back to back defeats, are now in with a do-or-die situation as another loss would pull the curtains down on their campaign. They rested Nashra Sandhu for Diana Baig against India. However, the left-arm spinner should be included in the next match. A lot would again depend on how the likes of Nida Dar, Bismah Maroof and Javeria Khan step up to the plate.
Pakistan Probable XI
Ayesha Zafar, Javeria Khan (C), Umaima Sohail, Bismah Maroof, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Nahida Khan, Sana Mir, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Nashra Sandhu, Anam Amin
Ireland Probable XI
Ireland didn’t get off the best of starts against Meg Lanning’s Australia and they would be desperate to turn over the Women in Green to keep their hopes of qualification alive. Both their bowling and batting faltered last time around. The openers in Claire Shillington and Cecelia Joyce need to set the tone early. The captain Isobel Joyce needs to lead her team from the front.
Claire Shillington, Cecelia Joyce, Gaby Lewis, Eimear Richardson, Isobel Joyce, Laura Delany (C), Kim Garth, Shauna Kavanagh, Mary Waldron (wk), Lucy O’Reilly, Claire Metcalfe
Match Timings: 1:30 IST (November 14); 16:00 local (November 13)
Match 10- Australia vs New Zealand
The Southern Stars are on top the points table in their group owing to a couple of resounding triumphs. Another win would seal their berth in their semis. Alyssa Healy showed that they aren’t short of firepower. Lanning, Mooney, Gardner and Haynes can also tonk the leather. The fast bowling lineup has Gardner, Perry are Schutt with Molineux and Wareham being the spinners.
Australia Probable XI
Alyssa Healy (wk), Beth Mooney, Elysse Perry, Meg Lanning (C), Ashleigh Gardner, Elyse Villani, Rachael Haynes, Sophie Molineux, Dellisa Kimmince, Georgia Wareham, Megan Schutt
The White Ferns would face a tough challenge against Australia. Fast bowler Holly Huddlestone may be drafted in place of Hayley Jensen. Bates and Paterson will open the batting with Devine, Watkin and skipper Amy Satterthwaite to follow. Wicketkeeper Katey Martin can also smack the ball. A lot would depend on how Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek perform in the spin department.
New Zealand Probable XI
Suzie Bates, Anna Peterson, Sophie Devine, Jess Watkin, Amy Satterthwaite (C), Katey Martin (wk), Maddy Green, Leigh Kasperek, Holly Huddlestone, Amelia Kerr, Lea Tahuhu
Match Timings: 5:30 IST (November 14); 20:00 local (November 13)
