After a big win in their opening game against Bangladesh, Windies will be taking on South Africa who are fresh from starting off their campaign with a clinical win over Sri Lanka. Both the teams are placed in the Group A which is considered to be the tougher of the two. With England losing a chance of grabbing two points in the game against Sri Lanka, the winner among Windies and South Africa could well be front-runners from their group to make it to the semis.

Both the teams know each other’s strengths having played in a five-match T20I series in the Caribbean prior to this tournament which ended in a draw as both won two games apiece. The matches to be played in St Lucia were destined to be washed out due to the storm but some exceptional work by the ground staff kept the hopes alive for the matches in Group A. Windies, who played on the first day of the tournament in Guyana, struggled with the bat against Bangladesh.

However, the hosts showed their class with the ball to restrict Bangladesh to the lowest Women’s World T20 total. South Africa took on Sri Lanka on Monday where the experience of Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp came handy. The duo batted together for the first time in an International game since their marriage making them the first couple to bat together in an ICC event.

Match Details:

The 12th match of the Women’s World T20 2018 will be played between Windies and South Africa at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.

The match starts at 8:00 PM local time (12:00 AM GMT – Next Day) (5:30 AM IST – Next Day).

Last five completed T20I matches:

Windies: W, L, L, W, W.

South Africa: W, W, W, L, L.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The pitch at St Lucia was slower in comparison to that of Guyana and playing under lights makes things tougher for the batters. The rain made the preparation of pitch tougher and left wet outfield. As the games between these two teams will be the second one to be played on the pitch, the spinners will once again come to the party.

Squads:

Windies:

Stafanie Taylor (C), Merissa Aguilleira, Shemaine Campbelle, Shamilia Connell, Britney Cooper, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Sheneta Grimmond, Chinelle Henry, Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews, Natasha McLean, Anisa Mohammed, Chedean Nation, Shakera Selman.

South Africa:

Dane van Niekerk (C), Chloe Tryon, Lizelle Lee, Sune Luus, Shabnim Ismail, Masabata Klaas, Mignon du Preez, Marizanne Kapp, Laura Wolvaardt, Zintle Mali, Robyn Searle, Tumi Sekhukhune, Faye Tunnicliffe, Moseline Daniels, Yolani Fourie.

Probable XI:

Windies:

Stafanie Taylor (C), Shemaine Campbelle, Shamilia Connell, Britney Cooper, Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews, Natasha McLean, Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman.

South Africa:

Dane van Niekerk (C), Chloe Tryon, Lizelle Lee, Sune Luus, Shabnim Ismail, Masabata Klaas, Mignon du Preez, Marizanne Kapp, Laura Wolvaardt, Tumi Sekhukhune, Moseline Daniels.

Power Picks:

Hayley Matthews, Shabnim Ismail and Chloe Tryon hold the key in this game. Matthews can score runs at the top and bowl a couple of crucial overs. Ismail is one of the best bowlers in the T20 format while Tryon can produce a lot of damage with the bat on her day.

Best Playing XI:

Lizelle Lee, Chloe Tryon, Mignon du Preez, Natasha McLean, Deandra Dottin, Dane van Niekerk, Hayley Matthews, Afy Fletcher, Shabnim Ismail, Anisa Mohammed, Masabata Klaas.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Deandra Dottin’s promotion as an opener makes her a default option for a multiplier so does her opening partner Matthews. However, Hayley did not bowl in the previous game. The captains of both the teams; Stafanie Taylor and Dane van Niekerk can be considered for multiplier options as well.

Expert Advice:

For this game, there are as many five top Women’s T20 all-rounders categorized among all-rounders – Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, Marizanne Kapp, Deandra Dottin and Dane van Niekerk. Having all of the players is a cushion but there is a possibility that only three of them will be picked. Dottin, Matthews and Van Niekerk hold the edge among the five as they bat higher compared to Taylor and Kapp.

Probable Winners:

Windies start as the favourites but the game could go neck on neck with the chasing team having an edge.
