World Cup 2019: England skipper Eoin Morgan hit on the finger during training taken to hospital
England will play a couple of warm-up games on May 25 and 27 ahead of the start of the tournament.
England are preparing for a couple of warm-up fixtures against Australia and Afghanistan on May 25 and 27 before the inception of the tournament. The hosts will play the inaugural game of the World Cup 2019 against South Africa at the Kennington Oval on May 30. Ahead of the matches, however, skipper Eoin Morgan took a knock on his finger.
At one of the training sessions Morgan, in the middle of fielding practice suffered a blow on the index finger of his left hand. It wasn’t clear whether the impact was serious enough to cause an injury scare. But he was in any case taken to the hospital following the practice session and will go for an X-Ray though it is just precautionary reported BBC Test Match Special.
Earlier during the captains’ interaction session on May 23, Morgan talked about the expectations from the English team. He admitted that it was not for nothing and because the team has done really well in the recent past.
England ready for the World Cup challenge
“We always talk about why expectation is there. Expectation doesn’t come out of hot air. We have scored some high scores, particularly at home and that’s built a lot of confidence within the side. We certainly believe the expectation is there for a reason.
Obviously, we’ve prepared pretty well but the World Cup is a different kettle of fish. You still have to play against some of the best sides in the world, all the best teams in the world, to earn the right to get to the latter stages,” Morgan said during the captains’ press interaction.
He also is aware of the fact that all the past work, the confidence, momentum will not really matter if they don’t manage to replicate the performance in the World Cup. Morgan & Co. have prepared the best to their ability and looking forward to the inception of the tournament.
“Like every other side, we’ll have to do that regardless of what has been before. Everything you’ve done, yes it does contribute – experience, performance, confidence going into the World Cup. But you still have to produce it then as well. We’re as best prepared as we possibly could be. We want the first game to be tomorrow. Get yourself into the tournament regardless of what happens,” Morgan further said.
