The cricket World Cup of 2019 has seen an import of footballing features in the form of home and away jerseys. Because of the clashing colours of some of the teams, they have also been provided with away colours to differentiate themselves from the opponents. Among the teams that have the dual kit is India and they will be seen ditching the traditional blue jersey in favour of an orange one during the tournament. India, for instance, is likely to don the away jersey in the match against hosts England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on June 30, as both teams have blue jerseys.
Besides India, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are also wearing the away jerseys because of the clashing colours of blue and green. Only Pakistan has been allowed to wear their jersey in all games while England will wear their powder blue jersey in all matches as the hosts. Australia, West Indies and New Zealand will also continue with their own jerseys because of their unique colours of yellow, maroon and black, respectively.
However, while four of the five teams to wear the away jersey have already unveiled them, India are yet to do the same. “The BCCI marketing team is still working on the design and the jersey will be unveiled very soon,” India Today quoted a BCCI source as saying on Tuesday.
“For televised ICC events all participating teams will be required to provide for two different coloured kits, except for the host country who has a preference in the choice of colour and may, if it chooses to do so, provide only one coloured kit to be worn in all matches throughout the event. In advance of the event the teams will be notified which coloured kit will be worn in each match,” the ICC had said in a release.
India might wear away kit against Afghanistan as well
India could also be seen wearing their new colour against Afghanistan who also have blue as their primary colour. India will play Afghanistan in Southampton on July 22. South Africa have been seen sporting their home kit (green) in the first match against England while in their second match against Bangladesh, they wore the away kit (yellow).
