World Cup 2019: Jason Roy ruled out of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka clash

The ongoing World Cup in England and Wales has already witnessed several injuries to players of some of the teams. Even the hosts are plagued with the same issues now as their in-form opener Jason Roy has been ruled out of the action for two matches. England are scheduled to play Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in the next two outings and the back-up opener James Vince is likely to partner Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order.

Roy walked off the field due to a hamstring injury in the previous game against the Windies and didn’t bat in the chase as well. In the same match, the skipper Eoin Morgan also suffered back spasm and even went off with Jos Buttler leading the side for a few overs. Later it was revealed that both the players will undergo scans and will be assessed ahead of their next match.

Morgan not ruled out yet

According to the reports in the Telegraph, Jason Roy is suffering from a hamstring tear and thus will miss England’s two matches of the tournament. As far as Eoin Morgan is concerned, his back spasm has settled down but is not yet confirmed to play against Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Given the strength of the team, the management might opt to rest Morgan as well at least for the next match as they have more important matches coming in the near future. The Brits had thumped Afghanistan in the warm-up match by nine wickets.

James Vince looks set to play his first World Cup match on Tuesday while it remains to be seen who replaces Morgan if he is rested. Jos Buttler will take up the captaincy duties in that case and Moeen Ali might return to the action after missing the last two matches for the team. England have enough depth in the squad and they would want their key players fit and raring to go as the tournament enters its crucial phase.
